Early voting a no-go for Marylanders
A split decision by Maryland 's Court of Appeals rejected Maryland's early voting law, passed by the General Assembly earlier this year. The law would have allowed early voting over a five-day period at selected polling places across the state, helping seniors, commuters and voters with job conflicts cast their ballots more easily.*
Tom Perez off primary ballot
The Court of Appeals also ruled last week to remove Tom Perez's name from the September 12 Primary Election ballot. The Court disqualified Perez, a Democratic candidate for Attorney General, citing a constitutional requirement that the candidate practice law in Maryland for 10 years. Earlier this year, an Anne Arundel Circuit Court judge agreed with Perez's assertion that his 12 years as a federal lawyer fulfilled the requirement.
